DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott finally opened their home season on Friday as they took on Collegiate Conference of the South's Maryville (5-2, 1-0 CCS), falling to the Scots by a final of 7-0.
The match was a good test for the Scotties (0-5, 0-2 CCS) as the Scots are one of the teams favored to compete in the postseason for the CCS. Although the Scotties failed to take any matches on the day, there were still several building blocks for the young team, which is comprised of four new players and two veterans.
In doubles, the Scotties were able to get on the board in all three matches, with the closest result coming at the #3 spot, where
Trinavy Le and
Feliz Pearson were in a tight battle throughout with Ella Reyes and Jose McRae of Maryville, eventually falling in a close, 6-4, decision. At the top spot,
Taylor Hendley and
Leilah Lewinson had several promising points with the Scots, but eventually fell, 6-2. At the #2 spot,
Katherine Cox and
Jasmine Ziller fell by a score of 6-1.
In singles, two of the first-year members of the team had standout performances. At the #2 spot,
Taylor Hendley and Calliana Kondolios battled through several long rallies, but Kondolios had just enough fire power to take down Hendley, winning 6-3, 6-1. At the #6 spot,
Feliz Pearson had another strong showing, but eventually fell in three sets in the longest match of the day, dropping a 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(10) decision to Ella Reyes. Every other Scottie in action managed to take games off of the Scots, including
Leilah Lewinson, whose scoreline did not reflect the closeness of her match, as she stayed on court for over an hour, eventually dropping her match at #1, 6-0, 6-1.
The Scotties will look to turn their fortunes around next weekend as they travel to Belhaven (1-10, 0-2 CCS), a team they took out a year ago on their way to the postseason, winning 7-2 in their only matchup in the 2024 season.
